Thanks for the post and photos. I ran across your site looking for references to the caryatids on the Museum of Science and Industry. (I just returned from a three-week archaeological trip in Turkey, I'm comparing original sites to modern versions.) I was surprised when I saw the bronze doors. I strongly suspect they are based on the south doors of the Florence Baptistry. See http://www.bluffton.edu/~sullivanm/italy/florence/pisanosouth/pisanosouthdoors.html.
ReplyDeleteTerrific work! That is the kind of information that are meant to be shared across the internet. Shame on Google for no longer positioning this post higher! Come on over and talk over with my site . Thanks =)
ReplyDeleteIt's a very impressive sight. Metal pretty much brings out the grandness of a building's architecture. As a building material, bronze is one of the metals that look better with age, which works great for big buildings like that museum.
